Welcome back to PetroTalk, where we delve into all things petroleum! In this episode, our host Orie sits down with Jeremiah, the Product Development Manager at AFD, to discuss innovative advancements in fuel management systems. Let’s explore how these developments are shaping the future of fuel management and customer experience.
Jeremiah’s career began as an electrician in Canada, where he completed a four-year apprenticeship program. His journey took him from residential projects to working on drilling rigs in the oil field, which eventually led him to various international locations, including Dubai, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Jeremiah’s extensive experience in automation on rigs made him a perfect fit for AFD, where he was tasked with enhancing their technology and fuel management solutions.
AFD’s business model is unique, as it encompasses multiple facets of fuel management. They rent out tanks, provide trucking and delivery services, and sell fuel as distributors. This comprehensive approach allows AFD to serve customers efficiently and offer a one-stop shop for all their fuel needs.
Upon joining AFD, Jeremiah focused on integrating new technologies to streamline operations. Partnering with SECI was a significant step, as it provided AFD with advanced data and information systems. This partnership enabled AFD to transition from archaic pen-and-paper methods to more fluid and automated processes.
One of Jeremiah’s key projects was integrating card payment systems, including Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. This innovation was crucial for AFD, especially in remote areas where traditional fuel cards might not be available. By opening up payment options to the general public, AFD enhanced customer convenience and broadened their market reach.
Jeremiah emphasized the importance of tailoring fuel management systems to meet specific customer needs. Whether it’s a solar-powered system or linking multiple tanks to a single system, AFD ensures that their solutions are customized and efficient. The integration of SECI’s technology plays a vital role in this, providing customers with a seamless and user-friendly experience.
Looking ahead, Jeremiah sees immense potential for further technological advancements in the fuel industry. By embracing touchscreen interfaces and digital aspects, AFD aims to create an even more positive user experience. This focus on innovation is not just for the managers and fleet operators but also for the end-users, including truck drivers and delivery personnel.
Jeremiah highlighted the importance of data in optimizing fuel usage and efficiency. Modern fuel management systems provide valuable insights into fuel consumption, helping customers track usage and identify areas for improvement. This data-driven approach ensures that fuel is used efficiently, reducing waste and enhancing overall productivity.
